Indonesia Visa
Going to Bali and other parts of Indonesia is fantastic, but if you want to stay a little longer, it's crucial to know what kind of visa you need and your alternatives. Here is all the information you require regarding the three most common VISAs for visiting and staying in Bali.
There are numerous VISA alternatives available to suit everyone, but Indonesia is highly stringent on VISA expiration dates and what you can and cannot do on each specific VISA, so it's crucial to understand what each one entails.

These are the 3 main types of VISA most travelers use:
1. A free "Tourist Visa" or "Visa On Arrival" is valid for a maximum of 30 days.
Citizens of more than 60 nations, including those in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, are eligible for a visa on arrival (VOA). The website of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights contains a comprehensive list of the nations that qualify. Visitors from these nations may obtain a VOA that is valid for 30 days and may extend it for an additional 30 days by paying a charge.
A visa on arrival will cost USD 35 starting in 2021. The exact cost will depend on the exchange rate at arrival and must be paid in local currency. This one is quite simple because there is nothing you need to do before you get to the airport. Go directly to passport control to have your VOA and date stamped in your passport when you arrive in Bali.
2. The extendable tourist visa (VOA), which costs $35 and is valid for a maximum of 60 days.
This is where things can become a little hazy. This is essentially the same as the VOA above, with the exception that you have the option to extend for a further 30 days, for a total of 60 days. Also, you can obtain an extension of your VISA when you land in Bali.
Just before the main passport control line is where you'll find the extended VOA payment desk. After paying here, you will be told to proceed to a different desk to have your passport inspected and to get your extended VOA stamp.
How do I prolong my VOA, then? is the next question. The fact that the stamp you receive at the airport still reads "expires after 30 days" may cause some confusion. The $35 deposit actually just offers you the choice to stay an additional 30 days; it does not entitle you to an automatic 60-day stay. If you want to remain longer than the first 30 days, you must extend your VISA through an established visa agency in Bali, where a representative will collect your passport and handle the necessary paperwork.
You will find the process to be considerably simpler if you hire an agent, and you will only need to make one trip to the immigration office to sign your paperwork and have your photo and fingerprints taken. In my opinion, it is well worth the extra cost. Even while it might end up being a little less expensive, going through immigration on your own will need numerous trips and extremely long delays. Therefore in my perspective, not worth it.
3. Social Budaya Visa or ‘Social-Culture Visa’ - up to 6 months
You may want to try to obtain a "Social Visa" if you want to stay in Bali for more than 60 days or even if you consider making Bali your permanent residence. This is a difficult process that calls for sponsorship from an Indonesian national, a school or institution, or a volunteer organization in order to spend a total of six months.
It actually gives you an initial 60-day period with the option to extend four more times, for a total of 180 days (approx. 6 months).
Please keep in mind that you must apply for this visa from anywhere other than Indonesia. Moreover, it is a single entry VISA and does not permit employment. Again, I strongly advise utilizing a trustworthy agent if you are considering applying for this VISA. They will handle all the paperwork and walk you through the entire procedure!
Whatever VISA you choose, I am confident that you will adore Bali and enjoy the fun of your life there. Good vacationing, tourists!
