It's no secret that some of Bali's top restaurants are located in Ubud.
Two of Indonesia's most celebrated fine-dining establishments can be found there, along with Bali's most well-known babi guling warung.
The restaurant and culinary culture in Bali Ubud is as varied from one extreme to the other as its lush, jungle-covered surroundings. You should thus take a little break from your temple-hopping, boutique shopping, and bucket-list experiences to sample some of Ubud's top restaurants. No of your budget or taste preferences, this intriguing neighborhood has something for everyone from gourmet to gastro, vegan to carnivore.
Additionally to support you on your culinary tour? This is our recommended list of places to eat in Ubud, conveniently divided into the top eateries for breakfast, lunch, and supper, followed by all the indulgent pleasures for aficionados of fine dining. Even several local Balinese warungs have been included.
Ubud's best restaurants
1. Cerita Manisan
At Cerita Manisan, where the cuisine and ambiance are inspired by ancient kingdoms and spice routes, you can get to the very heart and spirit of Indonesian and South East Asian cookery. Enjoy the outdoors in a setting surrounded by rice fields while getting a taste of the local flavors and culinary customs.

Consider a hot smoked beef brisket prepared in the manner of East Timor, with sautéed cassava leaf and sambal lu'at on the side. Or the crispy, sweet, and caramelized pork belly, which is served with a nam pla prik dressing, a green salad, and a spicy caramel sauce. Yum!
Open everyday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. is Cerita Manisan, Jl Hanoman, Ubud, p. +62 813 3908 7098.
2. Ibu Susu Bar & Kitchen
Despite its diminutive stature, this underdog in Ubud has had a huge impact on the local culinary scene. The Pan Asian cuisine offers all-day appetizers prepared properly, like pandan hotcakes for breakfast, pig belly steamed buns, soft shell crab burgers for lunch, and crispy lemongrass chicken for dinner.

While the food here surpasses all expectations, the cocktails have also generated a lot of buzz. The Salted Caramel Espresso Martini is right up there with Bali's best drinks, and the Smoked Negroni would be at home in a New York speakeasy. We salute that!
Open everyday from 12 pm to 11 pm, Ibu Susu Bar & Restaurant is located at Jl Monkey Forest, Padang Tegal Kelod, Ubud. The phone number is +62 878 5209 6667.
3. Kyoka Japanese Kitchen
Kyoka Japanese Restaurant had us at konnichiwa with its vibrant drinks, crispy katsu, and enormous sushi rolls. The best place to go for contemporary Japanese staples, unique sake, and Japanese whiskey is this cozy Kyoto-style eatery.

Of course, there are also those vibrant signature drinks. The Nabeyaki udon, fresh-made Kyoka gyoza, and spicy tuna roll are some of our favorites. Kyoka's Sakura Tini, brewed with green tea vodka, goes best with all of these dishes. Cheers!
Open everyday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Kyoka Japanese Restaurant, Jl Dewisita, Ubud, tel. +62 812 3976 8531, e-mail info@kyokaubud.com.
4. Apsara
Apsara, a modern Indian restaurant in the heart of Ubud, offers traditional flavors in a semi-fine dining atmosphere. For breakfast and lunch, there is a pan-regional approach to thaalis (platters), and for night, there is a stylish 20-seater setting with a tapas-style menu.

Our top suggestions? Try the vegetarian Aloo Tikki and the saag paneer, two must-try tapas dishes, or the Lamb Varuval, a Madurai-style paratha with braised leg of lamb and a cool coconut-coriander chutney. Our advice: to make the most of your evening, sip through the cocktails or split a bottle of wine.
+1 811 3960 6802; Apsara, Jl Goutama Selatan No. 30, Ubud; open everyday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
5. BatuBara
The sophisticated and incredibly romantic restaurant BatuBara offers a fine wood-fired dining experience to Ubud, with accents from Argentina and the Mediterranean. High quality meats, seafood, and vegetables are grilled in the kitchen using locally sourced coffee wood for a smokey flavor.

Before filling up on the grilled octopus or exquisite Wagyu steak, stop by early for an aperitivo, sharing empanadas, and crunchy croquettes. Finish on a sweet note with a scoop of lemon sorbet and Prosecco, a dessert wine or digestif, and wash it all down with an Argentinian Catena Alta.
Open daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. is BatuBara, Jl Raya Pengosekan No. 108, Ubud, phone: +62 811 3811 7673, and email: hola@batubarawoodfire.com.
6. Suka Espresso
Suka Espresso, which originated in The Bukit and is now a popular spot in Ubud, is where brunch devotees congregate to indulge in a tidy menu of classic Aussie café fare (the avocado smash here is undoubtedly the best around; do we need to say more?).

Of course, coffee enthusiasts visit for the perfect cup of joe because they import their beans in small batches from South America and Indonesia. Yes, this is a tropical stop you have to make if you need your daily coffee and brunch fix.
Suka Espresso is located at 108 Jl Raya Pengosekan Ubud in Ubud and can be reached at +62 812 3792 5414 or daily@sukaespresso.com. It is open daily from 7.30 am to 9 pm.
7. Milk & Madu Ubud
Due to high demand, everyone's favorite Canggu cafe established a second location in the center of Ubud. With Milk & Madu Ubud, you can get your hands on those skillet eggs and a selection of burgers in two island locations, not to mention those spectacular wood-fired pizzas.

Milk & Madu Ubud brings those outstanding all-day breakfasts, scrumptious lunches, and delectable evenings to the Ubud neighborhood. Like its sister location, this one has tropical, cool, and cozy feelings with just the right amount of industrial-chic design to give you interiorcrush. Everything we enjoy about Milk & Madu Canggu is present in Bali's center of culture.
Operating every day from 7 am to 10 pm, Milk & Madu is located at Jl Sweta No. 3 in Ubud. The phone number is +62 813 2975 6708.
8. Mushroom Espresso
Finding Mushroom Espresso, a popular lunch and coffee stop for Ubud's caffeine-fueled masses, is as simple as looking for the pink cactus. All of your lunchtime favorites, including toasties, burgers, and sandwiches, are available here.

The bistro-style cafe's single origin house blend of coffee, made to perfection, is the star, though. Grab a seat on the patio for a breezy feast and try the waffles, pastries, and croissants that pair perfectly with your cup of tea. You may also go inside and take a seat on the plush leather sofa that is framed in pretty floral wallpaper.
Mushroom Espresso is located on Jl Raya Pengosekan in Ubud and is open every day at 7 a.m.
9. Clear Café
Clear Café is your one-stop shop for nutritious, holistic food. Its 'clean food for clear minds' attitude is paired with cozy décor and a funky soundtrack for music lovers.
Before you dig into the incredibly delicious international vegetarian and pescetarian menu, check out the variety of tonics and elixirs that are sure to revitalize you. This is a well-known Ubud song.
Open every day at Clear Café, Jl Hanoman No. 8, Ubud, tel. +62 878 6219 7585, e-mail clearcafe@yahoo.com.
10. Watercress Cafe
Fantastic coffee, freshly squeezed juices, homey breakfasts, delectable salads, homemade pastries, and so. much. more. Another South Bali export, the Watercess Cafe, has established roots in Ubud and brings the best of the flagship Seminyak location to the Monkey Forest strip.

They hit nearly every point on the head in typical Watercress fashion. Our favorite? The veggie burger, the cream cheese-topped bagel with smoked salmon, and some of the best ribs around. Oh, and did we mention there's a wine bar upstairs? This establishment is finished off with a basic tropical decor with communal seats.
Watercress Café, Jl Monkey Forest, Ubud; phone: +62 813 3868 5599; open every day from 7 am to 10 pm.
11. Portofino
Portofino's sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine draws its inspiration from the Italian Riviera. Here, you may find traditional Italian dishes like the whipped ricotta mousse that is often served with focaccia made in-house, as well as lighter fare like fried zucchini flowers and house-cured smoked salmon.

Try the prawn vongole linguine with lemon and anchovy butter, panagratto, and parmesan cheese for a home-favorite main dish with a twist. Obviously, a glass (or a bottle...) of great wine must accompany every Italian meal, so Portofino checks all the boxes there as well.
Portofino is located at Jl Raya Pengosekan in Ubud and is open every day from 8 a.m.
12. Muse Café & Art.
One of Ubud's most popular rooftop spots, where you can while away a sunny day with a fresh G&T, nice conversation, and a table full of nourishing recipes done correctly, developed from being a place to chow down on real Indian favorites. Everything at this restaurant is made in-house from organic, locally sourced foods, and it is all really excellent.

To get a taste of everything, we advise swapping and sharing the small dishes. However, whatever you do, make sure to try Muse's renowned dosas and one of the tastiest dahls we've ever had. The jackfruit steak, the turmeric coconut fish curry, and the thali are more dishes you must try. Whatever you decide, know that it was produced with love and a genuine enthusiasm for delicious food.
The Muse Café & Art is located at Jl Sri Wedari No. 6b in Ubud and is open everyday from 7 am to 11 pm.
13. The Elephant
The Elephant, a slow food emporium and general beacon of sunshiney deliciousness, combines healthful meals with stunning vistas of Instagram hotspot Tjampuan Ridge. The foods here are all ethical, vegetarian, and most definitely fantastic.

They are also lovingly prepared and presented, which goes especially well when combined with a juice or happy drink. Try the Polenta al funghi, the Pad Thai, the curries, and if you want to detox, the drink menu is not to be missed either.
Open everyday from 8.30am to 10pm, The Elephant is located at Jl Raya Sanggingan in Ubud and may be reached at +62 811 3960 8118 or the.elephant.office@gmail.com.
14. Api Jiwa
Api Jiwa, the trademark restaurant at Capella Ubud, is a dramatic Asian BBQ restaurant with an outdoor jungle setting. Capella Ubud is a magnificent, glamping-style refuge in the middle of the rainforest. The interactive Robatayaki grill at Api Jiwa, which gets its name from the Sanskrit for "fire to the soul," is the restaurant's major draw. It serves up upscale nibbles prepared according to a neck-to-tail, farm-to-table cooking philosophy. Chef Nicola Russo employs premium cuts of meat, shellfish, fish, and offal that are skewered and grilled with five-star perfection.

These dishes are flavored with local spices and organic, in-season vegetables from the camp's garden and nearby farms. There are no menus at this restaurant; instead, each meal is specially created for a party of no more than 16 fortunate diners in an ever-changing "Omakase Style" dining experience.
The only seating is at 7 p.m. every day at Api Jiwa at Capella Ubud, Jl Raya Dalem, Banjar Triwangsa, Desa Keliki, Tegallalang, Ubud; phone: +62 361 2091 888; email: info.ubud@capellahotels.com.
15. Ibu Oka Warung
Ibu Oka Warung is the place to go if you want to enjoy the greatest pig crackling ever. Due to its delicious roasted suckling pork, known locally as babi guling, this small shanties-style eatery across from Ubud Palace is an Ubud institution that attracts both locals and food enthusiasts from all over the world.

The pork themselves are delivered by motorcycle and are prepared in large portions and served with rice, fried intestines, hot veggies, and Ibu Oka's special sauce in a rattan bowl. Have you even been to Ubud if you haven't dined at Ibu Oka?
Ibu Oka Warung is open everyday from 11 am to 6 pm and can be found at Jl Tegal Sari No.2 in Ubud.
